Winston Gittens Diversity in Education Endowment
Overview
Dr. Winston Gittens was an Associate Professor of Education at SMSU from 2006-2010. He was a valued colleague and professor who promoted diversity and respect for all. Dr. Gittens was a Barbados native, who was active locally and regionally in his efforts to promote diversity and multicultural education. He is remembered as a scholar, a professional, a colleague, and a friend. The Winston Gittens Diversity in Education Scholarship was created in his honor to promote diverse teacher candidates, who exemplify the characteristics of Dr. Winston Gittens. The School of Education strives to increase diversity in teacher candidates and respect for all just as Dr. Winston Gittens modeled in his life. This scholarship is for a new entering student pursuing a degree in education. Preference is given to English Learners and students of diverse or multicultural backgrounds.
Qualifications
Applicant must be majoring in Agricultural Education, Agricultural Education-Pre, Art Education, Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Com Arts & Lit/Secondary Educ-Engl, Com Arts & Lit/Secondary Educ-English, Com Arts & Lit/Secondary Educ-Speech, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Education, Education Program Licensure, Educational Studies, educEarly Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Mathematics Education, Music Education, Physical Education, Physical Education/Teaching, Physical Education: Coaching of Sport, Special Education, Teachers of English as a 2nd Language, Teaching English as a 2nd Language, Special Education: Para to SPED, Health Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, Special Ed:Academic&BehavioralStrategist or Teaching English as a 2nd Language.
