Rainy River Campus - Monica Hilke Memorial Scholarship

Overview
This scholarship was established in 2000 to honor the memory of Monica Hilke by her daughters, Sue Johnson and Liz Hams. Monica worked as a nurse for Dr. Monahan and Dr. Craig from 1937-1947. Due to World War II, there was a shortage of nurses, and Monica’s shifts often where 24 hours or more. Monica never complained. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse with a very positive attitude. Diagnosed with bone cancer in 1971, five medical specialists told her she had less than a year to live. Her positive attitude never ceased, she lived 27 years beyond that point and was named "Miracle Patient."
