Patrick E. Flahaven Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Description:

This endowed scholarship fund was established to honor Patrick E. Flahaven for his commitment to higher education by his wife, Maureen. Pat earned two Master’s Degrees, a Master of Management and a Master of Business Administration, the latter in 1999 from Metropolitan State University where he also was an “Outstanding Student”. He credited this education for polishing his administrative skills in his role as Secretary of the Minnesota Senate for 36 years, retiring in 2009. He was a Trustee Emeriti of the Metropolitan State Foundation Board having served for a decade on the executive and public affairs advisory committees and provided counsel on strategic legislative issues. In addition, he was been actively involved in his community and a jazz musician. He felt that Metropolitan State is a good place to get an education, a friendly atmosphere for adult learners who are working and, the tuition cost is affordable. Pat passed away in 2021.

These funds provide an annual scholarship to graduate students.

Awards average around $1000.

Eligibility Criteria:

Be officially admitted to Metropolitan State University by scholarship application deadline date
Be a graduate student with a declared degree plan
Must be registered for a minimum of 4 credits for each of the semesters in which the funds are awarded
Complete “Student Certification and Consent” form
Qualifications
Applicant must be a graduate student.
