OAKS (Overcoming Adversity Keeping Strong) Scholarship*

The OAKS Scholarship program pays tribute to high school seniors and first-year RCTC students who have encountered significant obstacles (such as personal or family hardships, abuse, neglect, medical issues, disabilities, chemical dependency or language and cultural barriers) in their lives and despite these struggles, have become both personally and academically successful. To be eligible, a student must be: A high school senior who is on track to graduate in Spring 2025 and has plans to attend Rochester Community and Technical College in Fall 2025. OR A student who is currently enrolled at RCTC and is attending as a first-year student with plans to continue at RCTC in Fall 2025. Applicants for an OAKS scholarship must attach an essay describing the difficulties they have experienced, how they have overcome these obstacles and what has been learned from their struggles. Please limit the essay to no more than two double-spaced pages. All applicants must have a nominator who can attest to the applicant's story and also write a nomination letter on their behalf. Candidates who are in the final consideration for this award will be asked to participate in a brief interview.
