M. Olivia Bradshaw Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Description:

This scholarship award was established to honor the memory of M. Olivia Bradshaw, mother of former Metropolitan State President Wilson G. Bradshaw. Funding was provided by Wilson G. and Jo Anna Bradshaw, as well as Metropolitan State University staff, faculty and students.

Average award is $1500

Eligibility Criteria:

Be officially admitted to Metropolitan State University by scholarship application deadline date.
Be at a Junior or Senior level in your academic career.
Must submit a current resume.
Be PELL eligible.
Demonstrate a commitment to civic and community engagement, defined as: active involvement in exercising the power of citizens in public life and learning. This requires developing a combination of knowledge, skills, values, and reflection to promote one or more of the following activities: Socially responsible daily behavior, Direct action strategies, Community or economic development, Direct service, Voting or other formal political activities, Community building, Grass-roots political activity or public policy work, Advocacy through community education.
Submit Letter of Support.
Have a Metropolitan State University cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
Must submit an essay
Complete “Student Certification and Consent” form
Essay Questions:

Please submit an essay (minimum of 250 words, no more than two double spaced pages) answering the following essay questions/topics:

What is your commitment and background in civic and community engagement?
Consider your most fulfilling civic and community engagement experience. What specifically did you learn from this experience?
What do you consider to be the most critical social issue in your community today (i.e., hunger, homelessness, etc.)? What role will/do you take in addressing this issue?
Please list work/life experiences or other information which you feel would be valuable for the selection committee to review relative to your application. You may attach a resume to provide this information.

Letter of Support

Submit a letter of support (signed and on letterhead) from a community organization addressing the applicant’s commitment to civic and community engagement, including:

How the applicant demonstrates civic and community engagement within the organization?
How the community or your organization benefits from the applicant’s engagement?

Applicant must be a Junior or Senior.
Applicant must be PELL eligible.
Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.
