Karl Neid Endowed Scholarship
Overview
Scholarship Description:
Karl Neid was a lifelong resident of St. Paul’s East Side from 1949 to his death in 1992. He attended elementary and secondary schools in his neighborhood and attended college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During his adult years, Karl always remembered where he came from and was engaged in many activities to strengthen the quality of life for people of the East Side. Through his community involvement, Karl was instrumental in getting Metropolitan State University to select its current East Side location.
Because of his love for learning and his motto as St. Paul City Council member “to make the East Side safer, stronger, better” his family, friends and associates have created the Karl Neid Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Award amounts range from $500-$4000.
Finalists will be interviewed by the Karl Neid Endowed Scholarship Committee.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be officially admitted to Metropolitan State University by scholarship application deadline date
Strong Connection to the East Side of St. Paul (high school, residence, community service, other)
Degree program/educational goals need to focus on concerns for issues/problems of the larger community
Demonstrated capacity to excel academically and demonstrated financial need
Be registered for the semester in which the funds are applied
Must submit an essay
Complete “Student Certification and Consent” form
Essay Questions:
Please submit an essay (minimum of 250 words, no more than two double spaced pages) answering the following essay questions/topics:
Why are you pursuing a degree program at Metropolitan State University?
Please explain your financial need for this scholarship award.
How do you plan to use your education at Metropolitan State to contribute to the needs of the larger community?
What is your connection to the East Side of St. Paul? This could be your high school, residence, community service, other. Please include all connections that apply.
