John Zwach Endowment for the Study of Local Government
Overview
Donated by John Zwach family and friends. This is for students who demonstrate leadership and participate in addressing issues. The student must submit and essay on government and issues topics. The scholarships are funded by the family and friends of the late John Zwach in honor of his lifetime of public service to Southwest Minnesota. A native of Redwood County, Mr. Zwach was a teacher, school superintendent, farmer and civic leader. He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives (1935-1946) and Senate (1947-1966), and served as Senate Majority Leader for eight years. In 1963 he was chief author of the bill which created Southwest Minnesota State University. From 1967 to 1975 Mr. Zwach represented Southwest Minnesota in the United States House of Representatives.
