Honors Music
Description:
Honors Scholarships are awarded by nomination and performance/presentation. Students are nominated by faculty in any area based on the upperclass scholarship auditions. Students undergo an audition/presentation process to be given an Honors Scholarship.
Music Honors Scholarship criteria:
Be a junior or senior music major (minors are not eligible).
Students must have successfully completed 4 semesters of applied lessons and ensembles as well as all required theory and piano courses.
Be enrolled as a full time music major of the year the scholarship is awarded (including student teaching or an internship).
Have a departmental and university GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of the audition.
Additional Requirements:
Attach a .pdf copy of your current transcript or DARS report (Both are available on eServices for MSUM students).
Nominees for Honors Scholarships will be selected by a faculty committee and names posted by 12:30 p.m. on the Upperclass Scholarship Day (held in March, exact date TBD).
Auditions consist of a 4-6 minute performance or presentation during Audition Day afternoon.
Presentations should represent the applicant’s work in their major area (e.g. Commercial Music, Music Education, etc.), and may include a live performance, a recording, a project presentation, or a scholarly research paper read aloud.
Honors performances and presentations will be judged by a faculty committee during a performance open to the public.
